Łódź has a lot to offer, both for artists as well as for art lovers. There are numerous galleries and museums, with many interesting exhibitions and unique collections. The Miejska Galeria Sztuki (The City Art Gallery) is undoubtedly one of the most important ones, and it attracts visitors already by its location - the villa of Leopold Kindermann - the most beautiful Art Nouveau villa in Poland. The Museum of History of Łódź is another example of combining interesting exhibition on the history of Łódź with architecturally unique building - the museum is located in the largest residence ever built by the factory owner in Poland, the palace of Israel Poznański, while the Cinematography Museum is located in the palace built by Karol Scheibler, and hosts exhibitions covering developments in film technology and film history. The Central Museum of Textiles is closely tied with Łódź and its history, and it is located in the White Factory built by Ludwik Geyer. Apart from hosting interesting collections, the museum organizes the International Tapestry Triennale. And for the followers of avant-garde art, a visit to the Art Museum is a must, as it hosts the oldest collection of modern art in Europe.

Another direction of the development of the city is the creation of new cultural institutions, located in post-industrial buildings in the process of revitalisation. From 2005, within the 19th century walls of Karol Scheibler’s factories, there is the Lodz Art Center a home of many international festivals, exhibitions and artistic projects. One of the biggest cultural projects in Lodz is the initiative of World Art Foundation located in a building of absolutely unique architecture, old EC-1 power plant. One of the aims of the initiative is the creation of a large festival and conference centre.
